June 30 - Lambs Canyon
On the way home from Mirror Lake Hwy, I decide to stop at Lambs Canyon. It's about 1pm when I park.
I immediately see a Painted Lady.
And then I start the 0.2 miles down the road checking out the wet areas. Seeing far less flyers this week but there are some new ones including the Northern Checkerspot and the Weidemeyer's Admiral (finally).
This is what I see:
N. Cloudywing -
Rocky Mt Duskywing -
Mustard White -
Cabbage White -
Western Tailed Blue -
Painted Lady -
Red Admiral -
Weidemeyer's Admiral -
Ringlet - I see this just before I leave after the hike.N. Checkerspot -
N Crescent -
Western Swallowtail -
Pale Swallowtail -
Once back, I notice the trail is not closed (last time there was a sign that it was closed until July 8)..
I decide to try and walk but to the 1st switchback if my foot is good - I have a hiking stick for balance (I hope).
After crossing the bridge, I see the Thimbleberries are in bloom and there's Solomon Seal
Strawberries in bloom. And with Fire Mitigation, there are tons of Strawberries. The slash piles are still in the forest perhaps they will take care of them this Fall. The trail is dry - Wow! But then I remember its basically July not May so not totally a surprise. I don't get as far as I wanted because the hill looked a bit too steep. That's fine because I see:
N Checkerspot -
N. Cloudywing -
Cabbage White -
Mourning Cloak -
Rocky Mt Duskywing -
Red Admiral -
Parnassian -
On my way back down the trail, I see a snake cross the trail. He was too quick to snap a photo.
Awesome day!
