Oct 17 - Stewart Falls (Aspen Grove)
Sunny day with highs near 70s. Heading south to Aspen Grove to hike Stewart Falls and Timpanogos Falls. I've been to Stewart Falls before in the Spring a few years back. Looking for hiking in the Fall with the Fall colors still holding on; I hope.
I take the trip by going thru Park City and then south to Heber. And the colors are still good; past peak but still good.
The drive past the reservoirs; they are so flat. I really should stop but I don't.
As I drive up the road to Aspen Grove, the colors are incredible!
I start up the trail to Stewart Falls stopping for an awesome view of Mt Timp.
I get up a little way but am stopped a large tree crossing the trail. I can tell it's been there for quite a while as all the bark has been removed; it's so smooth. I can't go under it but even for me going over is a bit of a problem. I think about just trying back but with a little thinking, I do get over it without maiming myself :)
On ward thru the pine forest and then into the aspen groves. So pretty in here with the yellow leaves and rust colors of the dry ferns.
There's color everywhere - too bad there's some low cloud cover.I find some seed heads from the Virgins Bowers vine
Soon the view opensThe trail starts heading downhill (I forgot about this). I'm worried about my ankle as it still hurting on steep hills and this is a steep hill that I will have to climb.
Well, I thought I'd get to the Falls today but I'm happy with seeing the Falls from about 1/4 mile away. I'm good. Time to head back as I'd like to hike up to Timp Falls.
Lots of folks heading to Stewart Falls now.
Good hike!
