Aug 6 - Frozen Lake (Sunrise - Mt Rainier)
Well around 4:30pm after gobbling down a peanut butter sandwich and a bunch of Pringles, I decide to head to Sunrise to hike out Frozen lake (1.5 miles - 500 ft - one way)
Only about 6 care in front of me at the gate. Wish everyone would have a Pass as it would make things go so much faster.
But I was thru and heading up the mountain. It's a bit of a drive - curvy, big drops - but soon I'm in the parking lot.
No problems parking; I parked in front of the snack bar. Mt Rainier is in the clouds but the other peaks are out.
Hoping she shows up!
It's about around 64 degrees as I start up the trail.
It's all uphill and it seems more than 500 ft.
Not many flowers but there are Asters, Paintbrush, Lupine, Yarrow and a few others.
Can't forget the Beargrass!!
It's just barren country and late in the season.
Lovely walk and more so when She comes out over the 1st Burrow!!! Awesome!
After a time, the wind really starts blowing. It's a bit chilly.Seeing large chipmunks and a Pika along the way.
Soon I'm at Frozen Lake. No chunks of ice on the lake but still snow on the large side.
Many people starting up to the Fremont Overlook -- it's 6pm!Berkley Park is straight ahead.
I stay only briefly at the lake before heading back.
In the final meadow before the Visitor's Center, I turn back to a terrific ending to Day 1!
And a good look at the VC.
Awesome day! So glad I went - got to make the most of things especially when a drizzly day turns to sun!!
